The Afiya Center

State of Black Women

Event Description

The Afiya Center presents the State of Black Women, an intersectional report highlighting how the current political climate has created the socioeconomic and health disparities that exist among Black women in Texas.

This report provides an in-depth look at the negative impact systemic and institutional racism has had on the overall health of Black women and will discuss the growing disparities of maternal mortality. Texas lawmakers have consistently presented and passed legislation that has had a devastating impact on the quality of life for women by limiting their reproductive choices. With continuous funding cuts and restrictive policies limiting abortion access, it is apparent Texas politicians have little regard for the health of women in this state.
